◆ Legal records
Show which version of the document existed, and when.
Two sides produce two copies of the same agreement and neither can say which one came first. A dated record of the exact file settles which version existed by which date, and nothing else: it does not sign, witness, or bind, and whether a court accepts it depends on the court, its rules, and a witness who can speak to the process.
The record is in Base’s public transaction history, not in a vendor’s database, so opposing counsel can check it without taking our word for anything. What that check needs is the exact file you retained and the receipt naming the transaction.
What happens if we shut down →A finalized record means we observed a successful Base L2 receipt, not Ethereum settlement. Independent checking needs the retained file, receipt and suitable Base history access. Read the evidence limits.
◦ Use cases
Ways to use a dated file record
Document version
Keep executed or reviewed files with their receipts and separate signature and identity evidence.
Recording export
Checkpoint a retained export while preserving the capture system, custody, consent, and access records separately.
Matter record
Use the checkpoint as one technical artifact in a counsel-directed evidence and retention process.
▸ FAQ
Common questions, answered plainly.
Does this sign or witness the document?
No. Nobody’s identity is checked and nothing is witnessed. It records which version of the document existed, not who agreed to it or whether they were bound.
Can I show which version was agreed?
It distinguishes the version that existed when. Who agreed to it, and whether they were bound, are separate questions needing separate evidence.
What do I hand to the other side?
The file and the receipt. They can check it themselves on the public verify page with no account, or read the transaction from Base without going through us at all.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to check a file or download the independent verifier. Create an account and verify your email to notarize files and manage your records.
